Kasganj violence: Third accused Salman has been nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh police in Chandan Gupta murder case, however, two prime accused in the case are still absconding. The arrest comes two days after an accused named Rahat Qureshi was held by the police from Kanshi Ram Colony.
Kasganj violence: The Uttar Pradesh police, on Tuesday, nabbed the third accused in the killing of a 22-year old in a mob attack on a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate Republic Day in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj. As per ANI, the police has arrested an accused named Salman in the Chandan Gupta murder case. The arrest comes two days after an accused named Rahat Qureshi was held by the police from Kanshi Ram Colony. Qureshi is accused of instigating a riot, as per media reports. A country-made pistol and some cartridges were also recovered from him. The main accused in Chandan Gupta killing, Saleem Javaid was booked by the police on February 1.
Chandan Gupta had died after being shot and the killing had led to a spiral of violence in the town in which at least three shops, two buses and a car were torched. More than a hundred people have been arrested so far over the clashes in Kasganj. Of these, 37 have been arrested under five FIRs and 81 for breach of prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144 of the CrPC. However, out of the three main accused in Chandan Gupta’s murder, only one has been arrested and the other two – identified as Waseem and Naseem – are still on the run.

Notably, the UP government has also submitted a report on the incidents in Kasganj to the Union Home ministry conveying that the police were probing the violence and whether it was pre-planned. The police are also trying to link bullets found in the body of the killed youth with some of the weapons seized.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that his government is committed to providing security to each and every citizen. “Anarchy has no place in the state,” he said promising strict action against the perpetrators of violence.
