Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar talked at length to the press on Saturday morning after breakfast to end the ongoing fiasco over CM-ship. The ongoing crisis over a ‘deal’ of power-sharing between him and his deputy has been in the news for weeks now. The two leaders had breakfast earlier in the day on the instruction of the Congress high command to resolve the crisis, that has been troubling even the Delhi leadership.

Siddaramaiah was first to address the press, and began with saying the “breakfast was good”. He said KC Venugopal asked him invite DKS and so they met over breakfast. On the leadership issue, he said, “There is no differences between us and there will not be any in the future.”

On MLAs meeting top brass, Siddaramaiah said, “As far as I know, some MLAs want to become ministers, so they might have gone to meet the high command. This does not mean that they are against the leadership. Some of them spoke to me and told me why they went to Delhi. Whatever the high command says, we will go by that.”

“The BJP and JDS have a habit of making false allegations. The BJP and JDS have made statements that they will bring a no-confidence motion. They are only 60, and the JDS is 18. They cannot match our numbers. We are 140. This is a futile exercise. We will confront their false allegations,” he added.

The CM said it were some media reports that created confusion and they would follow whatever the high command says.

‘I am with the CM’: DK Shivakumar

Talking to the media, DK Shivakumar said the Congress government was formed with everyone’s support and the same would continue. He said there are no groups within the Karnataka government, and he is with CM Siddaramaiah.

“With the support of all of you, we have brought the Congress government and we are working as per our promise. The people of the state are giving their full support. We have to fulfill their wishes. We are working in that direction… whatever the high command says, we will follow that, and there is no group. Even now, we are working together. Whatever the CM said, I am with the CM. We are working together…” he said.

He said the CM will come at his place for lunch or dinner in a few days. On the leadership issue, DKS said they always follow party high command. “We have been loyal soldiers of the party. We know that the party is going through difficult times in our country. But we are confident that Karnataka will play a major role, we will repeat government in 2028, and move forward in 2029 as well under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge ji and Rahul ji…”

“We have worked together. The people of Karnataka have given us a massive mandate. It is our responsibility to fulfill all the promises we made to the people of Karnataka… Today, we discussed our strategy for the 2028 assembly elections and how to deal with the opposition. They may try to raise many issues. We are prepared to respond…” he added.

As far as the no-confidence motion is concerned, he said, “let them do so…We are capable of running the assembly and the government. We will do it.”

But is the current scenario over? None gave a clear answer.

DKS guns at Centre ahead of winter session

Shivakumar took the opportunity to train guns at the Centre, saying some big issues will be raised in Parliament during the winter session starting Dec 1. He said the Centre’s promises on sugarcane, maize issues and many other programs are not helping the state.

“The other day, the Chief Minister also met the Prime Minister and gave a representation. Yesterday, Dinesh also requested the Prime Minister on this issue. So we are going to tell our Parliament members, don’t waste your time. You are not helping the state government. You have to go together. If you are interested in the welfare of the state, then we should all go together,” he said.
