Karnataka Election 2023 date, schedule live: Elections to the 224-member Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 10, and results will be declared on May 13, the Election Commission of India announced on Wednesday. The Karnataka Assembly which consists of 224 seats currently has 119 MLAs of the ruling BJP, while Opposition party Congress has 75 and its ally JD(S) has 28 seats. The term of the Karnataka Assembly ends on May 24, 2023. The BJP has set a target of winning at least 150 seats in the upcoming polls. The Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) had announced their first list of 124 and 93 candidates respectively.

Date of scrutiny of nominations: April 21
Late date for withdrawal of candidatures: April 24
Date of polling: May 10

Date before which election shall be completed: May 15

There will be a strict watch over godowns or warehouses for freebies, says CEC Kumar.
A social media cell will also monitor fake news/misinformation campaigns, or any violations.
It is mandatory for political parties to upload detailed information on their websites/social media platforms. Speaking of cVIGIL app, CEC Kumar said through this app, one can record, report and resolve violations in the election process.
Election Commission of India conducted election awareness programmes to beat urban apathy. Most urban cities including, Hyderabad, Pune are among the cities where voter turnout has been significantly low, says CEC Rajiv Kumar.
To facilitate polling, the ECI said that it has created 40 ethnic polling booths for primitive tribal communities for the polling days, said CEC Rajiv Kumar.
CEC Rajiv Kumar says that first time voters stood at 9,17,241.
CEC Rajiv Kumar says that the total number of male electorate stood at: 2,62,42,561, while the female stood at 59,26,3019. The total number of third-gender electorate stood at 4,699.
The gender ratio stands at 988.
The term of Karnataka Legislative Assembly ends on May 24, 2023.

Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar said that the party is absolutely ready for the elections.
“Congress is absolutely ready for the elections, we want this govt to be dismissed. This election will be development-oriented and for a corruption-free state and the country. Corruption is at its peak and PM Modi encouraged it, he did not take any action against his party leaders,” he said. (ANI)
