The complainant in the Lamborghini crash in Kanpur told a court on Wednesday that he does not wish to pursue legal action against the accused, adding a fresh twist to the already complicated case.

Mohammad Taufiq, one of the pedestrians injured after a Lamborghini rammed into six people on VIP Road in Gwaltoli on Sunday afternoon, informed the court of his decision. “I don’t want any legal action in the case. Mohanlal was driving the car and he has agreed to pay me compensation and make an out-of-court settlement.”

The accident, which took place around 3pm in an upscale locality, quickly drew attention due to the alleged involvement of Shivam Mishra, 26, son of tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra.

Dispute Over Who Was Driving

Shivam Mishra became a key figure in the investigation soon after the crash. However, his father told police that Shivam was not behind the wheel at the time.

According to Mishra, the family’s driver Mohanlal was driving, while Shivam was seated in the back as he was unwell. “The complainant has decided to withdraw his complaint. He has entered an agreement with Mohanlal,” Mishra’s lawyer Dharmendra Singh said on Wednesday.

‘I lost balance,’ says Mohanlal

Mohanlal surrendered before the court the same day. Speaking to reporters, he said: “I came to know that a case was registered against the driver of the car, so I am here. I lost balance while trying to hold Shivam, who was unwell. My car somehow veered into the pavement.”

However, the police have disputed this version of events. Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated, “We have evidence to prove that Shivam was driving the car, and he had left it at the accident site after hitting the pedestrians.”

Adding another layer to the controversy, it was alleged that Shivam’s security guards, who were following the Lamborghini in an SUV, pulled him out of the driver’s seat shortly after the crash.

Mishra had earlier said, “My son was unconscious when our bouncers brought him home and we immediately sent him to Delhi for treatment,” maintaining that Shivam was not driving.
