Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar wil get security cover after he received several open as well as anonymous death threats, the government said on Tuesday. Minister of State (MoS) for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told the agitating members in the Rajya Sabha today that the investigating agency will also probe the role of certain media organisations in airing interpolated video of the controversial speech of Kanhaiya Kumar.

He added that the Centre had taken action against those people who had openly issued threats to Kanhaiya Kumar and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned these statements.

The Delhi Police yesterday arrested the president of little known Right Wing group ‘Purvanchal Sena’, Adarsh Sharma, for putting posters bearing a reward of Rs 11 lakh for killing Kanhaiya.

The poster said “whosoever shoots JNU Students’ Union president and seditionist Kanhaiya will be rewarded Rs 11 lakh on the behalf of Purvanchal Sena”.

Earlier, the BJP expelled its youth wing leader for announcing a reward of Rs. five lakh for cutting off Kanhaiya’s tongue.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Kuldeep Varshnay was expelled from the party’s primary membership for a period of six years by the BJP’s district unit.
