The cloud over judges’ appointment may finally witness the silver lining. The Centre on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that High Courts across the country have vacancies since 2007 but these are “now being filled up”. In a report on the status of judges’ appointment submitted to the apex court, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said “there is no logjam” and the government has been working on the issue. Terming the situation in the Allahabad High Court as “alarming”, the Attorney General said judges’ appointment “is like a race. if you start in time you reach in time”.
The court has a set a date for next hearing and it will be on September 30 after the Centre submitted two sets of sealed envelopes with facts on judges’ appointment.
