Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yet again launched a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi-led Central Government over enforcing sedition charge on Jawaharlal Nehru University Student union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar without any evidence.
“Till now, Home Ministry has not produced any evidence. If they are putting sedition charges then they should show the evidences of sedition. It is a complete ‘jungle raj’ in Delhi. They have to prove it with evidence. They cannot declare anyone anti-nationalist without any solid evidence,” Kumar told the media person here.
Nitish, who is senior leader Janata Dal (United) said that the BJP-led dispensation has triggered the JNU issue in order to conceal its failure.
“I think the central govt. has failed to give good governance. They want to divert the attention of the people from the major and base issues of this country,” he added.
“People of other parties are also nationalist…but they do not require a certificate of nationalism from them (BJP or RSS),” Kumar said.
The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain the bail plea of JNUSU President Kanhaiya, who has been charged with sedition, and asked him to approach the Delhi High Court instead.
While transferring the bail plea of Kanhaiya, the bench took an assurance from Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar that in the ‘prevailing extraordinary situation’ pertaining to this matter, the Government of India and the Delhi Police Commissioner would provide adequate safety and security to the accused and a stream of lawyers who will be appearing in the High Court.
Kanhaiya on Thursday moved a petition before the apex court seeking his release from police custody under Article 32 of the Constitution.
The Delhi Police today submitted in the apex court report regarding the incidents of violence at the Patiala House Court.
Kanhaiya stated in the plea that he “fear for the safety of life and limb” at the Delhi sessions court that had compelled him to approach the apex court directly.
