Dalit leader and Independent MLA from Vadgam Jignesh Mevani made a big revealation on Tuesday. Mevani said that there is a threat to his life and shares the same feeling like VHP leader Pravin Togadia. His remarks came after some Dalit groups demanded Y category security for him. “I also have the same feeling as (VHP leader) Pravin Togadia. The fascist forces are capable of killing anyone. There is a threat to my life as well. The BJP and RSS can kill me, and as per my sources, they definitely want to eliminate me,” Mevani said. Earlier in the day, Dalit groups submitted memorandums to Collectors in various districts of Gujarat, demanding Y category security for Mevani. The Y category security entails cover of 11 security personnel, including eight commandos.

The Dalit groups also demanded the withdrawal of cases against Mevani and Bhim Army founder Chandrashekhar, who is currently lodged in a jail in Uttar Pradesh and has been charged under the National Security Act. A total of 30 memorandums were submitted across the state according to Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM).

On Tuesday, journalists boycotted a press meet to be addressed by Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani here after he refused to talk in the presence of an English news channel. After a close door interaction with students and academicians, Mevani had agreed to a short media meet. As soon as the newsmen started getting ready for the event by arranging the microphones, Mevani asked the reporter of an English news channel to remove his equipment. The legislator made it clear that he will not talk in the presence of that TV channel since it was “his policy”.
