The Janata Dal United on Sunday called for the resignation of Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh over his controversial statement on farmer suicide and added that the party is in support of the hunger strike called by JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda to address farmer issues.
“We support the hunger strike by Sadananda Gowda Devegawda. We want Radhamohan Singh’s resignation. I have even prepared a notice on this matter as well. We want him to go along with the prevalent corruption,” said JD (U) leader K.C Tyagi.
Gowda has launched a hunger strike to highlight the problems being faced by farmers, amid rising numbers of suicides by them, including in his home state Karnataka.
Gowda’s decision to undertake the hunger strike comes against the backdrop of a controversial statement by Radha Mohan Singh in Parliament yesterday, in which he said that the general causes of suicides include love affairs, barrenness of land and impotency.
