AIADMK today sacked its Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa for bringing ill fame to the party and being indulged in “anti-party activities.” The decision was taken by AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, ANI reported. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha today, Sasikala broke down saying there was a threat to her life in Tamil Nadu. The MP said she needs government’s protection. “If a leader can slap an MP, if a woman can be harassed…I need government’s protection…I don’t have safety in Tamil Nadu. There is a threat for my life,” ANI quoted her saying in the Upper House. Sasikala also alleged that she was being forced to resign from her “Constitutional post”. “However, I will not do it,” she said on the slapping controversy, according to ANI.
Later, speaking to reporters outside the Parliament, Saikala said she was very happy for being sacked as she would be able to work on her own. “I’m very happy to know that I’ve been expelled (from AIADMK). I can work on my own now,” ANI quoted her as saying. She alleged that she was not allowed to go home and “kept in Poes Garden (Jayalalithaa’s residence) like a dog.” “I am under threat. I was being compelled to resign from past two months,” she told reporters. According to reports, Sasikala had slapped a DMK MP at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Friday last after he allegedly made some comments on Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa.
Reports said that the two MPs clashed at Terminal 3 of the airport. After the incident, Sasikala went to Chennai, while the DMK MP Thiruchi Shiva returned to his house in Delhi. Later, Sasikala reportedly said that she couldn’t listen anything against Jayalalithaa. However, Shiva alleged that Sasikala had first passed comments on him and when he responded, she slapped him.
