Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5 at 11:30 pm in the night. Jayalalithaa had suffered a cardiac arrest a few days ago following which she had to be put on life support. And the nation mourns Amma along with the people of Tamil Nadu. Holidays have been declared in various states across the country to grieve for the fallen leader. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had also been adjourned for the day. People have been flocking into Rajaji Hall in Chennai where her body has been kept to say their last goodbyes to their Puratchi Thalaivi (Revolutionary Leader). She was 68. Life virtually came to a grinding halt in Chennai as the city woke up to deserted streets with shops, including eateries, remaining shut. Such scenes were witnessed across Tamil Nadu. She was an enigma at a personal as well as at a political level.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee along with other prominent leaders of the nation have also reached Chennai to pay their last respects to Amma. Meanwhile, three deaths have been reported apparently due to shock and two cases of suicide attempts were reported from the district after the news of Jayalalithaa’s deteriorating health spread last evening, police said today.
