Making her intents out to the world, Deepa Madhavan, niece of late CM of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa had talked about taking a plunge in politics saying that she would like to follow the footstep of her aunt. Deepa said she would do everything to sustain the legacy Amma built.
In a recent interview given to CNN News 18, Deepa openly said that she is not averse to joining the AIADMK party, but no one has approached or prevented her from doing so. However, Deepa didn’t explicitly say whether she would contest from RK Nagar in the next by-poll election, but she neither ruled out that option.
Further she also pointed out that Jayalalithaa never announced a successor and it is for the people to decide who will that person be. Meanwhile, AIADMK party has recently said that senior functionaries of AIADMK has urged Jayalalithaa’s close aide Sasikala to head the party.
In her interview Deepa revealed that she tried to visit Jayalalithaa several times when the she was admitted to the hospital, but was not allowed to meet by authorities. Deepa claimed they last met in 2007 and her efforts to get in touch through letters and call never reached Jayalalithaa.
Expressing shock over the burial of Jayalalithaa, Deepa said the last rites were not done according to Jaya’s beliefs and expectations.
