Everyone wants to be appreciated at their workplace but then not every employee is as committed as nonagenarian Loraine Maurer is. A veteran employee, Loraine, the 94-year-old is a cashier, celebrated her relationship with McDonald’s even as she nears a century in terms of age and she has no plans to hang up her apron. Since 1973, Loraine has worked with McDonald’s at several locations (exactly 44 years). Loraine says that the relationship that she has developed with her employees has helped her through the rough times, including the death of her husband Kenneth in 1980. Maurer who has come a long way is the great-grandmother of seven children, grandmother of six children and mother of four.
According to the Fox News, even after 44 years she still enjoys her job. She added, “If you don’t like your job, it’s a job, but I love it. The people, the clientele, that’s why I stuck with it.” Loraine says she has developed long-lasting friendships with colleagues and her customers are so friendly with her that they tell her about their personal lives, often asking her to recite a prayer for them. “I know what goes on with them [her customers], I know some of their children. Some ask me to say a prayer and I do,” she says. “I know their lives.”
Chip and Katie Kenworthy, the owners of the McDonald’s location where Maurer was working threw a party in her honor. A couple present at the party said “After all these years, she remains committed to serving her customers with one of the most delightful smiles around. Loraine has a loyal following of customers and they look forward to having her take their orders when visiting McDonald’s.” as reported by Fox News. Even her customers were present at the party.
Though her nutritionists have asked her to keep away from the McDonald’s food but she still eats it every day. Among her, favorite food items, fish sandwich tops the list.
To Maurer, working at McDonald’s is not like a job, for her, it’s the reason that keeps her going every day because of the flourishing friendships which she has developed with her customers.
