Following the surgical strike by India across the LoC in Pakistan, an encounter was reported between the Indian security forces and terrorists in the Mendhar sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this month, terrorists from across the border had attacked an Indian army base near the LoC in Uri, killing 18 Indian soldiers. Following the terror attack, tensions have been high between both the countries, as India in the early hours of September 29, launched a surgical strike across the LoC in Pakistan, eliminating at least 35-40 terrorists.
Earlier today, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, DGMO, Indian Army also said that it is a matter of serious concern that there have been many infiltration bids by terrorists at LoC. He also added that the motive of the surgical strikes was to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into our territory. “India has shared with Pakistan Army details of surgical strikes and we expect them to cooperate in the fight against terror,” he added. There were no Indian causalities during surgical strikes that were carried out.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has dismissed the Indian claims of surgical strikes and called it a cross-border fire. Pakistan had also warned that it would not sit peacefully if any such attacks follow into its soil. Pakistan Airforce on Thursday said that they remain alert and prepared for any and all eventualities. Meanwhile, evacuation along the borders of Punjab was reported today as additional BSF forces moved into the region.
