In a stern message to Pakistan, The Indian Army on Tuesday said that locations aiding infiltration of terrorists are being targeted and destroyed by Indian Jawans.  “Army has inflicted damage to post across LoC in Naushera sector in response to firing by Pak,” Major General Ashok Narula, ADGPI Army, said. The Army further accused the Pakistani army of backing armed infiltrators along the line of control (LoC). In a press briefing, Army spokesperson said that there is a likelihood of an increase in cross-border infiltration in recent weeks. “Pakistan Army has been providing support to armed infiltrators,” Narula said. “An increase in infiltration activities is speculated due to the opening of passes and melting of snow (Baraf pighalne se aur passes ke khulne se infiltration ke badhne ki aashanka hai),” he added. “Recent actions in Naushera have caused damage to Pakistan army posts,” he added. The Army sources have told news agency that operation was conducted on May 9. Meanwhile, Pakistani Army has rejected Indian claims of destroying Pakistani post. “Destroying Pakistani post along LOC in Naushera Sec and firing by Pak Army on civilians across LOC are false,” Pakistani Army said.  A number political leaders and parties have reacted to the development. “Salute the valor and courage of Indian Army for destroying Pak posts which were abetting infiltrators from Pakistan,” RS Surjewala, national spokesperson, Congress said. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena, the an alliance partner of ruling NDA government has said that the attack cannot be termed as a ‘major retalition’.  ” I don’t consider it a stern action, yes it can be termed as an ‘action’,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said.

Meanwhile, news agency ANI has also released a video showing Army’s retaliation against Pakistani posts

Indian Army’s statement on counter-insurgency operations comes in the backdrop of heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. Recently, Indian Army had killed four militants in a fierce encounter as the Army successfully foiled an infiltration bid in Naugam sector of the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, Press Trust of India reported on Sunday.  The operation which started on Saturday lasted for more than 24 hours. Three army personnel have also been reported martyred in the attack, ANI reported. “An infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops along the LoC in Nowgam sector. Two infiltrating terrorists were killed,” an army official told PTI on Saturday.

The army’s statement about the counter-strike comes just a day after Army chief Bipin Rawat honoured Major Leetul Gogoi, the official who had tied a man to his jeep to avoid bloodshed during a crisis situation in Srinagar.  The video showing the man, identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar, being used as a human shield had triggered public outrage. However, a section of media and army also supported Army Major for his presence of mind and the best possible action in the given circumstances.
