Prior to his swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan today, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi pays homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Sadaiv Atal. Narendra Modi is the only leader after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who has been elected for a third consecutive term after completing the full tenure of each previous term.

On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee declared that the TMC would abstain from attending Narendra Modi‘s swearing-in ceremony on June 9. “They (BJP) have not become the single largest party. Whatever they got more than 200 there is manipulation of EC,” the TMC supremo said, referring to the BJP’s victory of 240 Lok Sabha seats in the General elections 2024.

Regarding the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the Odisha Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena stated, “The new government will be sworn in in the next few days. Leaders from seven neighboring countries in India‘s vicinity and the Indian Ocean region, including Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on June 9.
There is speculation that the BJP will retain heavyweight portfolios such as home, finance, defense, and external affairs, along with education and culture, both of which have strong ideological significance. Meanwhile, allies might receive between five to eight cabinet positions.
Key BJP leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are considered certainties in the new Cabinet. Former chief ministers who have won Lok Sabha seats, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Basavaraj Bommai, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Sarbananda Sonowal, are strong contenders for ministerial roles.
Allies such as Ram Mohan Naidu (TDP), Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha, and Ram Nath Thakur (JD-U), and Chirag Paswan (Lok Janshakti Party – Ram Vilas) are also expected to join the government. Sources suggest that either Singh or Jha will be accommodated from the JD(U) quota.

Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will leave for Delhi tomorrow to attend the swearing–in ceremony of Narendra Modi. Modi‘s swearing-in ceremony would take place on Sunday evening.
“Prime Minister Prachanda is paying an official visit to India starting from Sunday at the cordial invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the swearing-in ceremony to be held on June 9 in New Delhi,” read a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, and high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal,” the statement said.

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is poised to take the oath of office on Sunday, marking his third consecutive term, a milestone paralleling the achievement of India‘s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Behind the scenes, there are intense discussions among BJP leadership and coalition partners regarding the allocation of ministerial positions among the various constituents of the National Democratic Alliance in the upcoming government.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced on Friday that there will be no change of guard ceremony on June 8, 15, and 22 due to preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and his council of ministers. President Droupadi Murmu is also scheduled to address both Houses of Parliament. The change of guard ceremony, a military tradition held weekly, will be suspended to facilitate the arrangements for these important events.
PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh is the first foreign dignitary to arrive in Delhi for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to take place tomorrow evening. PM Hasina was received by Secy (CPV & OIA) Muktesh Pardeshi.
Highlighting the significance of the oath-taking ceremony, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, “The visit of leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term is in keeping with the highest priority accorded by India to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘SAGAR’ vision.”

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed his attendance at Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi‘s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Sunday, June 9. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Muizzu’s name was among the dignitaries invited for the event.
President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the prime minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers at 7:15 pm on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on June 5, following the advice of the Union Cabinet. Murmu On Friday appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate after receiving a letter from BJP chief J P Nadda confirming Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. NDA leaders also submitted their letters of support.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is anticipated to start approximately on June 15. It is expected to kick off in the third week of June, with newly elected members taking their oaths over a two-day period. Following this, the House will proceed to elect a new Speaker, PTI reports, citing sources.
Narendra Modi on Friday called on the President who appointed him as the PM-designate. Speaking to the media from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Modi said that he has informed the President that the oath ceremony may be held on June 9. He also thanked the people of the country for giving the NDA a chance to serve them again and assured them that the government will leave no stone unturned to realise their hopes and aspirations.
“People of the country have directed the NDA government to serve them for the third time. I once again thank the people for this opportunity. I assure them that the pace at which the country has developed in the last two terms — transformation is clearly visible in every section of the society… this is a matter of pride for every Indian… I assure the people that in the 18th Lok Sabha, we will not leave any stone unturned in fulfilling the country’s aspirations with the same pace and dedication,” Modi said.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu will meet BJP president JP Nadda at 6 PM in Delhi today. Naidu and Nadda are expected to discuss the alliance modalities such as portfolios and cabinet representation during the meeting. News reports indicate that besides some plum ministerial posts, Naidu may also seek a special financial package for Andhra Pradesh from the Centre.
Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu earlier on Wednesday to tender his resignation and is set to meet her again with letters of support from NDA parties to stake claim to form the government on June 7 after deliberations took place among the NDA allies who pledged support for Modi.
