It became an interesting field day for some in 'dry' state of Gujarat when a car carrying illegal liquor cans met with an accident in Gujarat's Vadodara, news agency ANI reports. Well, even before the authorities could reach the spot, it was the locals who decided to take 'law into their hands'. The villagers, belonging to Vadodara's Dumad area, turned up at the accident site in numbers and simply looted the cans. However, this is not the first such incident in the state. Similar scenes were seen in state's Banaskantha district in January when a truck carrying liquor had turned turtle. As per a report in Times of India, news of the accident had spread like a wildfire in Samarvada village of Dhanera taluka of the district. The locals then had turned up in large numbers within minutes and looted the bottles. Nothing was left to be recovered by the time the police reached the spot. The only things cops could find at that time were some broken bottles and the abandoned vehicle. The consumption and sale of liquor are legally banned in the state of Gujarat. However, despite the reports, there have been many reports of illegal liquor flowing in the state. This is despite the fact that earlier last year, the BJP government in the state had put out a new law through an ordinance that entailed up to 10-year imprisonment for drinking and possession of alcohol.
