BJP workers on Thursday staged a protest in Kolkata to express their anger over Imam Barkati’s fatwa against West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh. Reportedly, the police baton-charged the crowd. Kolkata’s Imam had filed a fatwa against Dilip Ghosh following his derogatory comments on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on the 12th of December, to which he had replied with yet another controversial statement. In his reply to the fatwa that was issued, he said that this is not Pakistan and fatwas won’t work here. Ghosh’s comments came after Mamata Banerjee criticised PM Narendra Modi’s policy of demonetising high-value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 in fact, she has been carrying out rallies in different cities to voice her concern about the move.
In his comments, Dilip Ghosh had said if he wanted, ‘his’ police in Delhi could have dragged Mamata Banerjee by the hair and thrown her out for the ‘drama’ she is doing there. He also said that Banerjee was “crying” because she had lost thousands of crores because of the demonisation policy. Ghosh did not stop at that and further said that “…we had thought that she will ultimately jump in the Ganges… and that she has lost her mind and they are not ready to see her insanity’.
