A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a movie theatre in Telangana's Hyderabad city while watching Sanjay Leela Bhansali's recently launched movie, Padmaavat. Police is currently investigating the matter and have arrested one accused in the case.
A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a movie theatre in Telangana’s Hyderabad city while watching Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s recently launched movie, Padmaavat. According to the details provided by the police, the girl had become friends with the accused through social media and went to watch Padmaavat in Prashanth Theatre on Monday where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.
“The girl was raped inside a movie theatre. Two months back, the victim and the accused became friends through social media,” Mathaiah, Circle Inspector said about the incident. According to the police, the accused reportedly took advantage of the fact that there were only a few people in the theatre and nobody was near them. The accused was arrested by police on January 31 and on the following day, he was remanded to judicial custody.
The victim had received severe injuries on her private parts and is undergoing treatment now. A case has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and action has also been initiated against the theatre owner for negligence. The accused has been sent to judicial custody and further investigation is ongoing.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat had released across India on January 25 after amidst continuous protests and objections. The movie has raked in Rs 155 crore so far on the box-office and has become a commercial hit.
This incident comes a week after a 15-year-old in Hyderabad was allegedly raped several times by her mother’s partner. This incident was reported by the survivor’s mother at the Pahadishareef police station. The accused had reportedly raped the girl when she was alone at home, as per the complaint. It added that a case was registered under POSCO act and IPC section 376 (punishment for rape) against the accused.’
