Today is Human Rights Day and it is being observed worldwide.

Speaking about the role of women in world peace, Supreme Court Judge – Justice A.K.Sikri stated, “A United Nations report says that one-fourth of the world’s population live in areas of war – this affects women and children most. Women are not treated equally in so many ways. A sea-change is required to ensure and implement their equality.”

India has a great tradition of peace, says Nam Hee Kim

Bringing a contemporary “WhatsApp” element into his speech, Justice A.K.Sikri cited a WhatsApp message on how God took more time in creating a woman than a man and an Angel asks why and God says,”Have you seen the specs that I have for creating a woman? She is soft but she is strong and must function in all kinds of situations; she fights for what she believes in, she finds strength to go on with life no matter how it treats her, she has the strength that can amaze any man but she has one problem – she often forgets her true worth.”

Hearing all this, the Angel tells God, “Being a woman is priceless.”

Justice A.K.Sikri then cited a Russian writer, who had written, “Women give life and they can save the world if they are permitted to play a more significant role in the government.”

Concluding his talk, Justice A.K.Sikri stated, “Women don’t feel as men do when it comes to war. Women think of grief and pain, men think of economic results. It is women who are the ambassadors of peace. They are a pacifying force in times of turbulence and war. The empowerment of women and world peace go together.”

We must achieve the cessation of war through international law, says Nam Hee Kim

With human rights as its main theme, the Confederation of Indian Bar held a special discussion on the topic “Role of Women in World Peace.” Justice A.K. Sikri, Supreme Court Judge was the Chief Guest and Ms. Nam Hee Kim, Chairwoman, International Women’s Peace Group, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Pravin H. Parekh, President, Confederation of the Indian Bar, addressed the gathering and later presented mementos to them.
