In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl jumped off the 11th floor of an apartment complex in Faridabad to escape slavery and torture. The minor, an enslaved maid, took this extreme step after she allegedly suffered humiliation and physical abuse for two years. However, the victim who hails from Bihar escaped much harm miraculously. She survived as she was caught in a bird net on the 10th-floor balcony, according to CNN News 18.

The minor used to work as domestic help for a woman, who is pursuing her BTech degree at a private university in Faridabad. The accused identified as Sneha, hails from Patna. She stays in a rented flat in Kanishka Towers, where the child was subjected to abuse, as per The Times of India report. The minor was never allowed to step out of the house and it seems that she was starving for quite some time, locals said.

The 23-year-old accused was booked by the police. “An FIR has been lodged against a 23-year-old. Sections of the Juvenile Justice Act has been invoked and we will start an investigation soon,” Balbir Singh, SHO of Sarai police station, told CNN News 18. The minor’s body suffered deep burn injuries, scratches and wounds on the head, said the local residents in Faridabad, who rescued the girl.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi condemned the incident. “Cases of minors kept as domestic help should be strongly denounced. I urge all to come forth against #childlabour,” she wrote on Twitter. National Commission For Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), is also going to take up the matter with the district magistrate.
