In a significant moment in Telangana local body elections, a transgender woman won from a Ward in Chityala municipality, creating history in Nalgonda. N Sudhakar, a transgender woman, won Ward One pf the municipality with a lead of over 100 votes, as per reports.

Chityala municipality has 12 wards. The Congress has won nine wards while the KCR-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi secured two.

The transgender woman, N Sudhakar, contested as an Independent candidate from Ward One.

As per local media reports, Sudhakar has been handed over the result certificate by the Election officials.

Thanking the voters for electing her, Sudhakar assured that she would ensure the development of the ward in Chityala municipality, reports said.

Though the Congress has won by a landslide in Chityala municipality, BRS candidates put up a tough fight in a few. The victory margin was narrow in some wards. For instance, in Ward Six, the Congress candidate won by 37 votes over the BRS candidate, as per reports.

Vote counting for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations underway

Besides Nalgonda, elections were held in six municipal corporations of Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Ramagundam, Mahbubnagar, Mancherial, and Kothagudem.

The ruling Congress party has taken a commanding lead as counting continues across the state. As per reports, the Congress is leading in more than 500 municipal wards, indicating growing urban support. The party has secured early wins in key towns such as Nagarkurnool and Husnabad.

Earlier, as part of the electoral roll revision exercise, authorities had deployed 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state. Over 52 lakh voters participated in the electoral process to decide fate of 13,000 candidates in the fray.

The outcome serves as a test for Congress, BJP and BRS. State Congress President B Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed confidence that his party would win the polls. Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy asserted that the party would secure results.
