Himachal Pradesh elections Updates: The 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly goes for polls on November 12 and today is the last day of campaigning in the state which will see an electoral contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and debutante Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). With the BJP-led by Chief Minister Jairam Thakur in power in the state, the Congress is all out seeking to wrest control from the saffron-party in the hill state.

In the last phase of the election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed two rallies in Kangra and Hamirpur districts on Wednesday, as Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge went for election rallies in Shimla and Nalagarh in Solan district. On the last day of campaigning, the Congress will organize ‘Vijay Ashirwad’ rallies in all the 68 Assembly segments.

The Republic-P-MARQ opinion poll has predicted 37-45 seats for the BJP, and the Congress is predicted to get 22-28 seats, and AAP is expected to either not open its account or just win one seat.

INC: 22-28 | 40.1%
AAP: 0-1 | 5.2%
Others: 1-4 | 9.5%
Two opinion polls have given clean sweep to the BJP.
The ABP-CVoter opinion poll has predicted that the BJP could likely get 31-39 seats, the Congress could likely get from 29-37 seats. The new entrant AAP would likely get from zero to one seat in the Himachal Pradesh polls.
The Congress also took a dig at the BJP's oft-repeated claim of “double-engine” government, terming it “trouble engine”.
“Roads have turned into drains. Walking has become difficult,” reads a message in Hindi.
“Congress means guarantee of “vikas aur vishwas' (development and trust),” says another message.
“Himachal ‘ki pukar, phir ek baar imaandar double engine bhajpa sarkar' (Himachal calls for an honest, double-engine BJP government again),” says a short video message in Hindi.
BJP has started its election campaigning with the election tagline of 'naya rivaj banayenge, phir bhajpa layenge' (will make a new tradition, will bring BJP again). The tagline ostensibly refers to the trend of the state electing governments of alternate parties every assembly election. (PTI)
