Ahead of Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Pakistan, the Home ministry is reported to have been hosting a high level meeting today. Mr. Singh is to visit Pakistan on Wednesday to attend the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Home Mininsters’ conference. Though it was made clear that he would not meet his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in a bilateral meeting, it is rumoured that he would be holding talks, reminding the Pakistani government about its obligation to permit a team to investigate the Pathankot attacks. Earlier, the news of his visit was followed by a threat from Lashkar-e-taiba chief, Hafiz Saeed, who warned of major protests. He was of the opinion that India should be allowing the Pakistan government to send help to Jammu and Kashmir instead of exporting onions and potatoes to India.
In a statement issued in Lahore he asked the Pakistani government, if it is right in welcoming Rajnath Singh, who he blamed for the atrocities faced by the Kashmiris. He added that it would be an irony as the whole nation is protesting against the atrocities in Kashmir but the government is welcoming the one responsible for it. Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin also accused the Home Minister of being a Kashmiri Killer and demanded that the Pakistani government suspend all its trade and diplomatic ties with India.
The Home Minister however, has paid no attention to the threat and will visit Pakistan on schedule. He is expected to raise the issue of Pakistan’s funding of the terror groups operating in India, and ask for a check on Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad and other Pakistan based terror groups. He is also likely to talk about the issue of fake Indian currency being distributed by Pakistani agencies.
