Union Minister Babul Supriyo on Monday received a major relief in a case filed by Trinamool Congress MLA Mahua Moitra alleging former of outraging her modesty. Moitra had alleged Supriyo of “outraging her modesty” during a televised debate with words and gestures. Moitra filed a case with Kolkata Police against Supriyo on January 4. Moitra, in her complaint, alleged that Supriyo made jokes at her expense, making fun of her initial name “Mahua” by linking it to a local drink of same-name. Supriyo, however, had downplayed the development. “Chargesheet filed against me for asking Mohua Mitra, ‘Mohua are you on Mohua?’ while she was spewing venom against me and NaMo,” the singer had said on Twitter. Singer’s message was followed by a laughing emoji. The charge sheet was submitted at the Alipore Court, along with footage of the TV show in question. Supriyo had ignored three summons issued to him, a senior police officer said.

The state police also submited the footage of the programme in which the alleged remarks were made. The TMC MLA had registered her complaint at the Alipore police station. Mahua Moitra, who is a young face of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is an Ex-investment banker turned Politician. The leader is a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and represents the Karimpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency). Moitra was vice-president of JP Morgan before active entering in politics.
