The government on Wednesday said that an investigation has been initiated to identify the sources who made offensive entries in the Wikipedia pages of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday, said action has been initiated to probe into the incident and determine the source of the offensive editing.

The Minister was responding to an inquiry regarding the action taken by the government on the matter.

According to reports, in June, the offensive comments were added to Nehru’s Wikipedia profile. The online encyclopedia subsequently deleted the changes.

The Congress alleged that the changes were made from a Union government IP address and demanded an inquiry and lodging of a criminal case.
