In yet another shocking incident of rape in Haryana, a college student was allegedly raped in Gurugram district’s Farrukhnagar. The case has been registered against two accused. The latest incident comes days after a spate of similar incidents reported from the state. Earlier in the day, condemning the recent incidents in the state, Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh said that these incidents in Haryana are unfortunate and condemnable and the state government must take actions so that such crimes are not repeated again. “It’s unfortunate and condemnable. It’s government’s duty to take stern action. The action is to be taken not only at the time of the crime but also beforehand to ensure that it doesn’t occur in the first place, ” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
On Tuesday, the Haryana Police found the body of a 19-year old who was named as an alleged abductor in the FIR in rape and murder case of a 15-year-old Dalit girl in Kurukshetra. As per police, his family members identified his body from a tattoo on his arm. He was previously accused of abducting the girl from the district when she was going for tuition. He family named him as an alleged abductor in the FIR.“On the complaint of the girl’s parents, we were treating the youth as a kidnapping suspect. His body was found yesterday night from a canal near Jyotisar. Though there were no visible injury marks, the postmortem will reveal the exact cause of his death,” Kurukshetra SP, Abhishek Garg told PTI.
When the police personnel was asked about allegations made by girl’s family that local police did not act soon after being informed of her missing, he said the concerned SHO had been suspended. The police had previously also said that girl was assaulted and some organs were ruptured. The incident has caused huge anger in the country. Opposition parties have also slammed the state government on its alleged failure to ensure the safety of women in the state.
Reacting to the spate of incidents in the state, Haryana CM ML Khattar was quoted as saying by ANI, “We started ‘Dial 100 Project’, will also begin ‘1090 Project’ so women in danger can immediately contact police. We’ll look into matters, take help of counselling or legal action as the need be. We’ve set up special courts for speedy trials of such cases”
Recently, a six-year-old girl was also raped and killed in Hisar district’s Uklana area. In another incident, an 11-year-old girl was also raped and killed in Panipat a few days back and another 23-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped in a moving car in Faridabad.
