Gurugram gangrape case: Police has arrested 2 people, including an auto driver in the horrific sexual assault on a 19-year-old woman and the killing of her 8-month old daughter. However, one of the accused is still on the run and cops are carrying out raids in a number of places to nab him too, according to a Times of India report. The gangrape had happened in Manesar. One of the accused Yogender was arrested from village Runsi, which falls in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district. The second accused Amit was held from Bulandshahr. While the first arrest was made in the morning on Wednesday, the second one happened in the evening. The accused on the run is named Jaykesh.
The leads to the whereabouts of the accused came from the woman herself when she pointed out that the sarpanch may know something about the assaulters. The sarpanch happened to know the accused and was able to provide information. The woman said that while they were assaulting her, the accused said the local sarpanch knew them and that he would help them in case of trouble. The accused thereafter ran away, but returned to their jobs after they did not find any coverage of their crime in the news.
However, sensing trouble and looking to be careful, they approached the sarpanch and told him of their crime. The sarpanch informed the police and this led to the arrest of Yogender but Amit managed to evade arrest. However, he was later arrested in Bulandshahr.
They accepted their guilt and said they hatched the plan after they saw the woman going by with her daughter in her arms at night. They saw her take a lift from a truck but she got off after some distance. They then offered her a lift in their van and she accepted. They drove to a lonely stretch of the road and assaulted her there while driving the vehicle. They throttled the child and threw her onto the road divider.
Speaking to the Times of India, Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said, “We will nab the third accused soon.” He also promised action against the SI who had caused unnecessary delay in filing the FIR.
