Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll results updates: The results for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll will be declared today and the counting is underway. The constituency is witnessing a three-horse race between the Congress, the BJP and the AAP.

Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Election results updates: The results for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll will be declared today and necessary arrangements have been made for the counting.  The bypoll, held on October 11, is a litmus test for the ruling Congress in Punjab.The constituency is witnessing a three-horse race between the Congress, the BJP and the AAP. The results will be declared by 12 pm. Counting is taking place at two centers where the necessary arrangements have been made, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer V K Singh said. Centres have been set up at Sukhjindra College Gurdaspur for the six assembly constituencies and for the rest three constituencies of Pathankot district, it has been set up at the SD College in Pathankot. Gurdaspur parliamentary seat has nine assembly segments in Bhoa, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dinanagar, Qadian, Fathegarh Churian, Dera Baba Nanak, Sujanpur and Batala. Just a day before the bypoll results, Aam Aadmi Party had dissolved its units in Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts.

5: 30 pm: The BJP-SAD alliance in Punjab today alleged that the ruling Congress party won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha byelection by misusing the government machinery, reported PTI.

5: 00 pm: Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala today said people have reaffirmed their faith in policies and programmes of the party and expressed disappointment with the “all talk-no action” approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

4: 30 pm: Navjot Singh Sidhu also gave credit of Congress’ victory in the bypoll to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh the party’s senior leadership and the workers.

3: 30 pm: Soon after the results of the Gurdaspur bypoll were announced, Congress leader and Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh took to Twitter and hailed the mandate. He wrote: “So it’s 1,93,219..! Not much behind my expectation of a 2 lakh victory margin for @sunilkjakhar ji. What a vindication of our policies!”

3: 00 pm: Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today likened the Congress’ victory in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll to winning a Test cricket match by an innings and said it would have a demoralising effect on the BJP-SAD combine.

2: 50 pm: According to PTI, Jakhar also gave credit for his victory to the people and Congress workers who tirelessly worked over the past several weeks to enable him register a thumping win.
