In an encounter last night, two accused were arrested as Delhi Police busted a gun running racket near Salai Kale Khan in Delhi. The accused were getting gun supply from Pakistan via Nepal. Atleast nine pistols manufactured outside India and cash was recovered from the site. Several raids are being carried out in neighbouring states as well.
However, this is not the first time Delhi Police has busted a gun supplying racket in the capital. In April, 26 illegally manufactured guns were seized by the Delhi Police Special Cell from an alleged smuggler in Madhya Pradesh.
The Delhi Police has also busted a similar gun running racket in May where two persons were arrested for carrying locally fabricated guns and supplying them to Delhi and NCR region gangs. In the same month, another case of gun smuggling surfaced as the Maharashtra Police Special Task Force busted a syndicate engaged in supply of illegal arms.
In 2014, several rackets were busted for illegal trading of sophisticated fire arms by Inter-state gangs. The gang was also busted near Salai Kale Khan area. According to an Indian Express report, about 33 persons had been arrested for charges of gun smuggling and a total of 196 pistols had been recovered by the police within six months of time in 2014.
