Loyalist to Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, Vijay Rupani today sworn-in as new Gujarat Chief Minister and Nitin Patel sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister, in the presence of Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley and LK Advani. With Rupani taking the reigns in his hand, a major cabinet reshuffle took place with Vasuben Trivedi, Govind Patel, Tarachand Chedda, Rajnikant Patel, Saurabh Patel and Ramanlal Vora making a way out for induction of new ministers. The reshuffled Gujarat Cabinet will have 25 ministers now as 6 top ministers have been sacked from the cabinet. Ramanlal Vora will now take charge as Assembly speaker. The new faces include Ganpat Vasava and Atmaram Parmar. There are 3 new ministers who belonged to scheduled tribes. The induction of 8 Patidar faces is a clear indication by the government to appease agitating ‘Patel’ community.
Ramanlal Vora had Cow Protection portfolio, Saurabh Patel was looking after Finance and Rajnikant Patel was holding Home portfolio. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Mahatma Mandi in Gandhinagar. Earlier, Anandiben Patel had tendered her resignation to the Governor amid allegations and violence against Dalits in the state. Rupani has made it to the top post leaving behind the prominent contender Nitin Patel.
