Ahead of assembly elections in Gujarat, some eight Union Ministers on Thursday reached Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi to meet the BJP president. As per the reports by PTI, BJP chief held the meeting with Arun Jaitley and others over the Assembly polls in the state which is scheduled to be held in month of December this year. The leaders who met BJP President includes Arun Jaitley, who is BJP election incharge of Gujarat and co-incharges NS Tomar, N Sitharaman, J Singh and PP Chaudhary. After the meeting, the BJP Gujarat in-charge Bhupendra Yadav was quoted by ANI as saying that they discussed issues and strategy for Gujarat elections. “Discussed issues and strategy for Gujarat elections. No other topics discussed,” Yadav said.

This meeting comes amid strong buzz about a cabinet reshuffle by PM Narendra Modi that can take place any day now. As per the report by India Today, the Narendra Modi government is planning a reshuffle by the end of this week. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was among the ministers who met Shah today, holds the Defence portfolio after Manohar Parrikar was sent to Goa as the state Chief Minister earlier this year. To the question on how long he would continue as Defence Minister, Jaitley while talking to media replied, “At least I hope not very long.”

However, this would not be the first incidence of cabinet reshuffle under Narendra Modi government. Months after the government was formed in 2014, PM Modi in November expanded his cabinet. As per the report by PTI, PM last year in July, inducted 19 new faces, including BJP leaders S.S. Ahluwalia, M.J. Akbar and Vijay Goel, while elevating the environment minister Prakash Javadekar, in the second expansion of his government.
