Gujarat Elections: The campaigning for the first phase of elections in 89 out of the total 182 seats in Gujarat will end on Tuesday. The state goes for polls in the first phase on December 1. Voting for the remaining 93 seats will be held on December 5. BJP national president JP Nadda on Tuesday addressed a public gathering at Devgadh Baria, holding a roadshow in Bhavnagar (West) and at 8 PM he will be addressing a rally at Ravpura in poll-bound Gujarat. As Gujarat goes for polls in December for the phase 1 elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi escalated his tirade against Congress and accused the party of stopping armed forces from acting against terrorism when it was in power. The PM, who addressed four rallies at Palitana, Anjar, Jamnagar, and Rajkot on Monday.

Meanwhile, in another news, a scuffle broke out between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP workers yesterday during Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s roadshow in Surat city. While Kejriwal claimed a stone was hurled when the roadshow was passing, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-3), Pinakin Parmar, denied the allegations and said that the rally had passed off peacefully. He also said that no incident of hurling stones took place, as reported by PTI. Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases in December, counting of votes will be on December 8.

Meanwhile, the polls are not too encouraging when it comes to women in politics, as although women account for nearly 50 per cent of voters in Gujarat, the number of female candidates contesting elections stands at 139 out of the 1,621 candidates in fray. The BJP has given tickets to 18 women candidates against 12, while the Congress has fielded 14 against 10 in the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections.
