GST means Great Step by Team India, it means Great Step Towards Transformation, Great Steps Towards Transparency, which is why we are bringing in GST, said PM Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha today. “Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat – this is the dream of all of us. When we look at Railways, post offices, All India Civil Services…we get the feel of India. Digital India, Sagarmala..all these are about One India, they strengthen that spirit. GST is the new pearl that we are adding to this necklace, this strengthens the spirit of One India,” the Prime Minister said.
Talking about the tax reform, PM Modi said, “This is not just a tax system, it is a reform that each state, whether big or small, can belong to.” Talking about the various hurdles to GST and the eventual consensus, PM said, “When I was CM, I had many questions on GST, many issues. I used to discuss them with Pranab Mukherjee ji. My experience as a state CM, helped me address issues of other state CMs”.
PM Modi thanked all political parties for their support in the passage of this crucial indirect tax reform. “Rashtraneeti is bigger than Rajneeti. GST can’t be seen as a victory of a party or government, it is a victory for democratic ethos of India & a victory for everyone,” he said, thanking all parties. “Today is 8th August. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, the Quit India movement began. Today, an important move to free the nation from tax terrorism has begun,” Modi said.
