Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that the action against Nirav Modi was taken due to elections in India. He also said that once the polls are over, the scamster will be sent back by the BJP.
Prime accused in multi-billion PNB fraud Nirav Modi has been arrested in London and will be produced in the Westminister court. The move is seen as a big diplomatic victory for India where the fugitive diamantaire committed the biggest banking fraud. However, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that the action against Nirav Modi was taken due to elections in India. He also said that once the polls are over, the scamster will be sent back by the BJP.
“They (BJP) had only helped him flee the country, now they are bringing him back. They are bringing him back for the elections, they will send him back after elections,” Ghulam Nabi Azad said while reacting to the development. The opposition has been targeting the government for allegedly helping Nirav Modi flee the country just weeks before the CBI filed the case.
Nirav Modi was arrested by Scotland Yard in London, two days after a London court issued a warrant against him based on a request by the Enforcement Directorate for his extradition in a money laundering case.
“Nirav Deepak Modi, 48 (Date of Birth 24.02.71), was arrested on behalf of the Indian Authorities on Tuesday, 19 March, in Holborn,” the Police said in a statement. Modi will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on multiple occasions has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly helping Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi who is also accused in over Rs 13000 crore PNB fraud. Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi both are wanted in India. The ED and CBI have registered multiple cases under various sections against both of them.
