Today’s Google Doodle celebrates India’s 69th Republic Day. Celebrated on January 26 every year, it marks the day when Indian Constitution came into force in 1950 after being adopted on November 26, 1949. Republic Day marks the establishment of India as a Union of states bound and governed by law. The day is celebrated all across the country with patriotic fervour, joy and in a festive mood. Highlight of the occasion will be the Republic Day parade which begins at the India Gate and continues along the Rajpath. The event will be marked with hoisting of the flag by the President followed by exhibition of military skills by various regiments, showcasing of tableaus defining India’s rich culture, heritage and civilisation. Contingents from various states will also showcase performance on their ethnic cultures and diversity of the country.

Maintaining protocol, it is customary to host a leader of a foreign country as the chief guest on ever year’s Republic Day. For the first time, 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders will be attending Republic Day 2018 as Chief Guests. The ten nations are – Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. The ASEAN flag will be flown during the parade and also an all-woman bikers’ of Border Security Force will debut on Rajpath on Republic Day 2018. The 113-member ‘Seema Bhavani’ squad will display 16 kinds of stunts on 350cc Royal Enfield motorcycles. The doodle also has a camel and an elephant portraying India’s biodiversity and rich fauna.

Besides display of India’s state-of-the-art military weapons, vehicles, aircraft, the Indian Air Force will perform flypast involving different mid-air stunts and formations. The event will be live telecasted on Doordarshan.
