In a move to encourage timely payment of electricity bills, mainly through digital payments, BSES (Bombay Suburban Electric Supply), one of the two power distribution companies (discoms) in Delhi has announced a cashback scheme for its consumers. Consumers of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna (BYPL) will henceforth get cashback of up to Rs 1,200 if they pay their electricity bills on time through e-wallet.
The discom said in a release that it has partnered with digital wallet company Mobikwik to facilitate the 40 lakh customers of both BSES discoms in the national capital. To avail the cashback scheme, a consumer will have to pay the bill from Mobikwik’s website or mobile app, a BSES spokesperson said.
The payment via e-wallet will be beneficial to the consumers as they will be given a cashback of flat Rs 300 per-month for timely payment of their bills in January, February, and March 2018. “BSES consumers residing in south, west, east and central Delhi can get a cashback of flat Rs 300 per month for timely payment of their bills in January, February and March 2018. Moreover, they can get an additional cashback of Rs 300 for pre-payment of the April 2018 bill, of at least Rs 1,000, on or before March 31. Nearly 40 lakh BSES consumers in Delhi can benefit from the scheme,” a BSES statement said. To be eligible, consumers will have to pay three consecutive BRPL or BYPL bills, which can also include the pre-payment of the April, 2018 bill.
In November last year, PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India drive got a boost as BSES announced the launch of the Bharat QR Code-enabled facility for paying electricity bills. BSES announced that people who pay their payment digitally will be entitled to a 10 percent cashback too. BSES in its press release said that those using this payment mode would entitle the customer to a minimum 10 percent cashback facility which will be in effect from February 28, 2018. Moreover, it was also India’s first Bharat QR Code enabled payment facility on electricity bills. To avail the cash-back offer, customers have to pay their Bharat QR transaction through MasterCard.
As per the BSES statement released in November, to make the payment using this mode, the user, after logging in through their mobile application need to scan the QR Code which will be printed on the electricity bill. The QR Code will automatically show the customer details and the payment which is due. After the QR scan, the customer can choose the payment mode and pay the bill.
