The Goa Police has reached some leads with the murder case of Goa’s perfume researcher Monika Ghurde. Monika was found dead in her apartment on Thursday. The body was found naked on bed with her hands tied up. She had been living alone for one year as after separating from her husband. With the help of CCTV footages across ATMs in Goa, Mangalore and Bengaluru, the Police have zeroed in on an ex-security guard from the building Monika lived in.
The accused, Rajkumar Singh apparently stole Monika’s debit cards after killing her and used them at various locations in Goa, Mangalore and Bengaluru. Though he has been seized from a hotel in Bengaluru, the Police is waiting for local judge’s orders in Goa to take him in custody.
The investigation team found Rajkumar as they matched his face from CCTV footage and the records of staff working at the apartment complex Monika lived in. After getting alerts of debit card deductions, the Police got their hands on the locations of the ATM machines used. Rajkumar had fled to Bangalore and was hiding in a hotel from where the Police arrested him.
The police claims that the former security guard has confessed to killing Ghurde. Though no accomplice has been found yet, the motive is believed to be money however the investigation is still on. He will be subjected to a thorough investigation once in Goa. The police is also expecting the results of a serological test on vaginal swabs to confirm rape.
