Goa elections 2017: Former IG prisons Elvis Gomes to be AAP’s chief ministerial candidate for Goa

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Goa assembly elections in 2017.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Goa assembly elections in 2017. AAP national convener and Chief Minister (CM) of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal named former Inspector General (IG) prisons Elvis Gomes as the face of the party for the post of CM in Goa.

Earlier in July this year Gomes had taken a voluntary retirement and joined the AAP and have been campaigning for the party since then. Apart from being IG Prisons Gomes had held important positions like director of Municipal
Administration and Tourism, chairperson of Goa Housing Board, commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Panjim, and Captain of Ports.

At the time of voluntary retirement Gomes was IG Prisons and Urban Development Secretary. Currently he is the President of Goa Football Association. The AAP is fighting elections in Punjab and Goa in 2017. Where AAP has named its CM candidate for Goa but have refrained from naming the same for the state of Punjab.

Party sources said that this has been done to avoid any kind of split among ranks and prevent rebellion within the party.
