Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Dies Today: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has passed away after a prolonged illness. He was suffering from a pancreatic ailment for quite a long time.\u00a0President\u00a0Ramnath Kovind in a tweet said: "Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity. An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten." Parrikar is survived by two sons and their families. (Live updates) Parrikar, 63, served the state four times as chief minister and had a three-year-long stint as Defence Minister in the Narendra Modi-led cabinet. Congress President Rahul Gandhi Sunday condoled the demise of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and described him as "one of Goa's favourite sons". He said Parrikar was respected and admired across party lines and had bravely battled his illness for over a year. "I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Goa CM, Shri Manohar Parrikar Ji, who bravely battled a debilitating illness for over a year. Respected and admired across party lines, he was one of Goa's favourite sons. My condolences to his family in this time of grief(sic)," Gandhi said on Twitter. Earlier on Sunday, the CMO has informed that\u00a0Parrikar was\u00a0extremely critical.\u00a0The Chief Minister Office put out a tweet saying his 'health condition is extremely critical and doctors are trying their best'. The statement comes a day after Goa Minister after meeting Parrikar said the chief minister's health had deteriorated but he was stable. The former Defence Minister's health was fluctuating for a year. However, it took a turn for the worse in the past two days. Following the reports of deteriorating health, several party leaders and allies in the state government had rushed to meet him on Saturday.
