Goa Nightclub Fire News LIVE: The death toll from the Goa nightclub fire has risen to 25, including four tourists and 14 staff members. The fire started around midnight at the Birch by Romeo Lane club in Arpora, North Goa.
Eyewitnesses told PTI that the fire began on the dance floor, where about 100 people were present. Many tried to escape by running downstairs but got trapped in the kitchen area. Early reports suggested that a cylinder blast may have caused the fire and that the nightclub didn’t follow the fire safety norms. However, CM Pramod Sawant confirmed that the fire was caused due to bursting of electrical firecrackers.
PM Modi expressed condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh. He also spoke to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and took stock of the situation. CM Sawant has directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
“The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones,” PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), before adding, “May the injured recover at the earliest.”
He added, “Spoke to Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

CM orders probe
Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant expressed deep pain over the fire incident in Arpora that killed at least 23 people. “Today is a very painful day for all of us in Goa. A major fire incident at Arpora has taken the lives of 23 people,” he said on X (formerly Twitter).
He offered condolences to all the bereaved families and launched an inquiry into the incident. “I visited the incident site and have ordered an inquiry into this incident. The inquiry will examine the exact cause of the fire and whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed.”
Sawant said that those found responsible following the inquiry will face the most stringent action under the law. “Any negligence will be dealt with firmly.”

Goa Nightclub Fire LIVE: Committee to form new SOPs for establishments, says Goa CM
On the probe, Goa CM said the committee shall be constituted under the chairmanship of the Secretary of Revenue for conducting the audit of such clubs, business establishments, etc., which are operating without valid permissions and wherein there is a likelihood of gathering of people in large numbers.
He mentioned that an SOP framed by this committee for all such establishments to ensure such incidents shall not be repeated in future.
"The advisory issued by SDMA for all clubs, restaurants and other commercial establishments wherein the likelihood of significant footfall is there to ensure and operate with valid permissions and adequate safety provisions..." he added.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant said that four people have been arrested and the other club of Romeo Lane has also been sealed.
"The government does not promote any illegal nightclub..." he added.
Goa DGP Alok Kumar confirmed the identity of those arrested as - Rajiv Modak, Chief General Manager; Vivek Singh, General Manager; Rajveer Singhania, Bar Manager; and Priyanshu Thakur, Gate Manager.

Explaining the timeline of the incident, CM Pramod Sawant said the fire broke out at 11:45 PM.
"It happened in Arpora, and immediately after the incident, within 45 minutes, the entire police team and the fire department team were there. It was very difficult for the fire department to reach the exact location of the club because of the various obstructions. When the fire team went inside, they saw only two bodies, but later, when they went underground in the club, they saw the remaining 23 bodies. The bodies inside did not have any fire injuries; they died due to suffocation..." he added.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant announces an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 for the injured through the SDRF fund.

Kin of the Goa nightclub fire victims gather outside the morgue to identify bodies, PTI reported, adding that some of them have demanded that the nightclub owner arrange for the mortal remains to be transported back home in Jharkhand.
The Goa Church has expressed grief over the death of 25 people who lost their lives in the nightclub fire.
"It is with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families affected by the tragic incident. In this time of profound grief, we raise a prayer, asking God to surround the bereaved with His comfort and strength," Fr Barry Cardozo said in a statement.
"We also pray for the healing of those injured and for courage to all those who are personally impacted by this tragedy," he added.
