Cricketer Gautam Gambhir and former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif today took to Twitter and slammed the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his supporters the violence and destruction. Gambhir said this case was a classic example of “religion marketing.” He wrote, “Wonder what Ram & Rahim are thinking about the ‘Insaan’ & his misdeeds today! A classic case of religion marketing! #PanchkulaViolence” While Mohammad Kaif has praised the bravery two girls who fought the legal battle. “Utterly shameful behavior by the mob killing innocent lives. Salute to the bravery of the 2 girls who fought for this justice, ” Kaif tweeted.

Thirty-two people have lost their lives in Haryana after Dera Sacha Sauda followers went on rampage following the conviction of their sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a CBI court here in a rape case. Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been kept in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. The Army along with the police and paramilitary forces have put up barricades at entry points of the Dera premises, where tens of thousands of Dera followers, stayed despite an appeal by authorities to leave. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has chaired a high-level meeting today to review the security situation in the country, particularly Haryana, as per PTI. Facing flak over failure to check violence the Haryana government today suspended the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Panchkula, alleging that a “defective” order by him allowed the crowd build-up in the district.

After the high-level meeting, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said the director general of Haryana Police had assured the Central government that the situation was under control now.
