Gauri Lankesh murder: Ideology of RSS is to crush voices of dissent, said Congress Vice President today as he tore into Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over the killing of the journalist-turned-activist, according to reports. Gandhi also lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he is a skilled Hindutva politician. Gandhi claimed that anyone who speaks against the ideology of BJP-RSS is pressured, beaten, attacked and even killed. Gandhi said that an independent voice was silenced and a journalist fighting against radical forces was killed. He also asserted that India won’t allow this to happen. Gandhi also said that he had spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and mentioned that people who did this must be caught and punished.

Meanwhile, Editor’s Guild of India has demanded that Congress government in Karnataka must act with alacrity to bring culprits to justice apart from instituting a judicial probe. The Guild expressed deep shock and strongly condemned the murder of Lankesh. “Her killing is an ominous portent for dissent in democracy and brutal assault on freedom of the press,” the Guild said.
