G Satheesh Reddy, the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, has won the IEI-IEEE Award for Engineering Excellence-2015. Reddy has been given this award for his significant national contribution towards Missiles and Aerospace technologies. At the award ceremony, Reddy made a heartening statement that India is marching towards self-reliance in missiles. The statement assumes significance not only because Reddy is the Scientific Advisor to Manohar Parrikar, but also for the fact that Reddy is the Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems at DRDO.
G Satheesh Reddy has decades of experience in giving a big thrust to India’s major defence programmes, particularly missiles. As the Director of RCI, he led the development of Avionics technologies in critical areas of inertial systems, real time software and simulation, embedded computers, control, power supplies, RPF, antennae, seekers, flight instrumentation for various defence programmes – Agni A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, Akash, underwater missiles, Prithvi, Dhanush, Astra, BrahMos, Nirbhay, Helina, Nag, MRSAM.
G Satheesh Reddy is a globally renowned navigation scientist and has played a crucial role in development of high accuracy accelerometers for long-range precision navigation. He graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from JNTU, Anantapur and received his MS and Doctorate from JNTU, Hyderabad. He was appointed the Scientific Advisor to Parrikar in 2015. At that time he had said, “I will work to bring in synergy between Armed Forces, DRDO & iIndustries and identify the technologies and products which are being imported today and put all out efforts to get them ‘Made in India’.”
