From Pune Metro to jobs reforms, top 5 Cabinet decisions taken by Narendra Modi led Cabinet today

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in a meeting today has cleared a number of reform moves and infrastructure projects.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in a meeting today has cleared a number of reform moves and infrastructure for projects, which included approval of Pune Metro to job reforms. During the meeting , it also approved fresh tanche of Rs 1009 crore for the Election Commission to buy new new Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) so that it can be replaced with ageing ones before the next Lok Sabha elections in 2019. It also decided to keep subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers unchanged for the second half of the ongoing fiscal. As per an official release, the CCEA has cleared the proposal of half-yearly review of Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for P&K fertilizers for the year 2016-17.

Here are some of the projects that has been cleared by the Union Government today:

1) PuneMetro Phase-1 project: The Cabinet has approved the development of Pune Metro Rail Project Phase – 1. It will cover a length of 31.254 km with two corridors — Corridor-1 {Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate} and Corriodor-2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi).

2) Cabinet approves reforms to boost employment generation and export in textile made-up sectors: The centre has approved reforms in the apparel Made-ups sector, which is aimed at creating large scale employment of up to 11 lakh persons over the next three years and encouraging exports. The reforms have been cleared within the approved budget of Rs 6,006 crore for the apparel package, a report in PTI has said.

3) Cabinet approves expansion of mandate of the Delhi Mumbai-IndustrialCorridor Project Implementation Fund: The Centre also approved the expansion of mandate of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project Implementation Trust Fund and re-designated it as National Industrial Corridor Development & Implementation Trust for integrated development of industrial corridors.

4) CCEA decides to keep P&K subsidy rate unchanged for October-March period of 2016-17: It decided to keep subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers unchanged for the second half of the ongoing fiscal. At present, the subsidy on nitrogen (N) is fixed at Rs 15.85 per kg, Rs 13.24 per kg for phosphorous (P), Rs 15.47 per kg for potash (K) and Rs 2.04 per kg for sulphur (S).

5) Cabinet go ahead to Rs 1,009 crore proposal by Election Commission to buy new Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs): The governmnt approved a tranche of Rs 1009 crore for the Election Commission to buy new Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) so that it can phase out old ones before Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
