France’s AFD to extend funds support for Kochi Metro Phase II project

Agence Francise de developpement (AFD), a French agency has announced that it will extend financial support for the second phase of Kochi Metro including the Edepally and Kalamassery junction along with other development projects put forth by Kochi Metro Rail Limited.

An AFD team which visited the city for the supervision of phase 1 of the project appreciated the pace of the progress and also said that they are positive that it will meet the operational commercial deadline. The AFD team was also able to carry out a trial run of the coaches.

However, Nicolas Fornage, the AFD director said that a formal concord for funding would only be done by ‘the first half of 2017’.

According to Elias George, Managing Director of the Kochi Metro with the three projects – Kochi Metro phase 1 and phase 2, the Water Metro and the Smart city project- a lump sum investment of Rs 11,000 crore is expected to be brought in Kochi, out of which Rs 9,000 crore would be reserved for the projects related to mobility only.
