Following his controversial tweets calling a Kargil Martyr’s daughter, Gurmehar Kaur a ‘political prawn’, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda, today justified his action by sharing a Facebook post mentioning, “Don’t hang me over a laugh”. Earlier after former cricketer Virendra Sehwag trolled Gurmehar over a video she posted on social media, last year, Randeep Hooda also engaged in the Twitter war saying “She (Gurmehar) is being made a pawn”.

Justifying his stance on the matter Randeep Hooda, over a post in Facebook, said, “Viru cracked a joke and I admit I laughed. Damn!! He is so witty and this is one of the other million things he’s said that has made me crack up. That was it!!”

Further claiming that his intention was not to instigate hate threats against the Delhi University student, Randeep stated that the tweets by him or Sehwag are not the source of the hate Gurmehar is receiving.
“She spoke up, she stood for something she believes in, so then, she must also have the courage and fortitude to listen to the voices against it. To point fingers at someone else (in this case me) and hold him responsible for the reactions to her actions is not right. I have absolutely nothing against her and strongly believe that violence is wrong,” mentioned the Bollywood actor in his post.

In a hard-hitting response to the media in the wake of being trolled by former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and others like Minister of State (MoS) Home Kiren Rijiju on social media and elsewhere, Kargil martyr’s daughter Gurmehar Kaur, 20, said that, “I am heartbroken, these are the people you yell for in matches and they troll you at the expense of your father’s death.” And responding to the allegations about being manipulated by others, Kaur said, “I have my own mind, nobody is polluting my mind. I am not anti-national.”

Further reacting to Gurmehar’s response to his tweets, Randeep mentioned, “This girl’s voice is important, but not more important than every other citizen. She is in no way representing all the martyrs and their children. It’s her personal opinion and should be taken as such. And it is my personal opinion that people shouldn’t fire their guns from young, impressionable shoulders.”
