Old people claiming pensions that are due to them, women activists pitching for equal rights, student activists who have a cause to fight for, mass agitations by disgruntled employees - you name any reason for an agitation - it's right there and happening in front of the Kerala Secretariat every day.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been busy all day but nothing would have caught his attention as much as the chest-thumping performance that was reported today in front of the Kerala Secretariat. We hope he didn’t miss it! Politics isn’t just serious but it is quite a ”crying” affair in a politically vibrant state like Kerala, where people mark their protests by staging it in front of the Kerala secretariat. Old people claiming pensions that are due to them, women activists pitching for equal rights, student activists who have a cause to fight for, mass agitations by disgruntled employees – you name any reason for an agitation – it’s right there and happening in front of the Kerala Secretariat every day.

But today – something really different was ”staged” – so much so that even former Finance Minster KM Mani was reportedly taken aback by it. Wondering what it is? The residents of Kasargode Malayoram gramam staged a ”chest-thumping” protest where they wailed and cried and shouted their grievances while – take a deep breath – they began thumping their chests and we are talking about a group of men, just in case you haven’t understood this yet!

Also Watch:

What provoked them to stage something so…..well, bizarre? “Our children have no proper roads and because of this, we aren’t able to send them to school. So many people have died because there are no roads in place and we can’t help them reach hospitals on time. Without roads, our children don’t have a future,” a protesting resident told local reporters.

It sure makes sense. We, who live in the city, complain of traffic jams that make it difficult for us to reach anyplace at a decent time – but imagine the plight of so many Indians who have no access to roads in the first place!

And now a question we can’t help asking: Will netas get to witness more of these chest-thumping agitations in front of the Kerala Secretariat?
