Muslim cleric Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali on Wednesday declared that the first Roza would be observed on June 19.
“The moon could not be sighted in any part of India today. The Markaazi Channd Committee of Lucknow hereby announces that the first Roza will be observed on June 19,” said Mahali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday extended greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Prime Minister also conveyed good wishes to the people of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and also expressed hope for peace, tranquillity and harmony in the three countries during the month of piety and prayers.
Ramadan begins on June 18 this year.
