In a big move to curb air pollution, the Supreme Court on Monday, ruled out a ban on the sale of fire-crackers in Delhi and the national Capital Region, as per CNN News 18. Earlier on 13th September, the Supreme Court had refused to impose a complete ban on the sale of fire-crackers in Delhi during Diwali but had placed many curbs on its sale saying that a complete ban would be ‘radical’ move. Last year, after Diwali, Delhi and NCR region got covered in a blanket of smoke for several days due to the air pollution caused by burning of firecrackers.

As per lawyer Pooja Dhar, “Sales can resume from 1 Nov. Court to take further decision, taking into account impact on air quality during this period”

Another lawyer, Haripriya Padmanabhan said, “People who had already purchased crackers will be able to burst them. Hopefully, they won’t do that.”
